CitizenReady privacy policy
CitizenReady works entirely on your device. There is no account, no sign in, and no server of ours for your study data to travel to. Everything you do in the app — every answer, mock, note, highlight, bookmark and test date — is stored on your phone and nowhere else. We cannot see your progress. We cannot see your test date. We do not know who you are.
01 Who we are
CitizenReady is published by NextGen Software Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 14613977, registered office 167 to 169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London W1W 5PF.
For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018, NextGen Software Ltd is the data controller for the limited processing described below. Contact: support@nextgensoftware.co.
02 What stays on your device
All of the following is written to a database inside the app’s own storage on your phone. It never leaves your device and we have no way to read it.
- Your answers to practice questions, reviews, retakes and mocks
- Your mock results and score history
- Your readiness figure and topic accuracy
- Your retake deck and review schedule
- Bookmarks, highlights and notes
- Your test date, if you set one
- Your appearance and reminder preferences
- Your reading progress through the chapters
If you delete the app, all of it is deleted with it. We hold no backup and cannot restore it.
03 What leaves your device
Three things, and only three.
1. Your purchase
CitizenReady offers a single one time purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your card details, your billing address or your name.
To recognise that you have purchased, we use RevenueCat, a purchase management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier generated on your device, your purchase receipt from the App Store or Google Play, and basic device and country information. It does not receive your name, email address or payment details. Apple and Google each apply their own privacy policies to the transaction itself.
2. Crash reports
If the app crashes, a technical crash report may be sent so we can fix the fault. A crash report contains the device model, the operating system version, the app version and the technical trace of what failed. It contains none of your study data, no notes, no answers and nothing you have typed. We use Sentry for this.
3. Links you tap
The settlement and citizenship guide contains links to GOV.UK and legislation.gov.uk. Tapping one opens your own browser and leaves CitizenReady. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we have no involvement in your visit.
04 What we never collect
- Your name, email address, phone number or postal address
- Your immigration status, nationality, visa route or any application details
- Your location
- Your contacts, photos, calendar or any other app’s data
- Advertising identifiers. There are no adverts in CitizenReady and no advertising or tracking network is present
- Analytics of how you use the app
The app requests no permissions beyond notifications, and that only if you turn reminders on.
05 Notifications
If you enable reminders, they are scheduled and delivered locally by your own device. CitizenReady does not use push notifications, holds no push notification entitlement, and never sends a notification from a server. Nothing about your reminders reaches us. You can turn reminders off at any time in the app, or in your device settings.
06 Working offline
CitizenReady is designed to work with no internet connection. Every question, chapter and glossary term is stored in the app itself. The only actions that need a connection are buying and restoring your purchase.
07 Our lawful basis
| Processing | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Managing your purchase and entitlement | Performance of a contract, UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b) |
| Crash reporting | Legitimate interests, UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f), namely keeping the app working correctly |
We do not rely on consent for any of the above, because none of it is optional to the operation of the app. We process no special category data.
08 How long anything is kept
Data on your device is kept until you delete it in the app or uninstall the app.
Purchase records are retained by RevenueCat, Apple and Google for as long as needed to honour your purchase and to meet their own legal and accounting obligations. Crash reports are retained for up to 90 days and then deleted.
09 Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability.
Because almost everything is held only on your device, most of these rights are exercised directly: delete the app, or use Reset progress inside it. For anything relating to your purchase or a crash report, write to support@nextgensoftware.co and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.
10 Children
CitizenReady is intended for adults preparing for the Life in the UK Test. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect any data from children.
11 Third parties we use
| Service | Purpose | Their policy |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Payment, delivery, receipts | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Payment, delivery, receipts | policies.google.com/privacy | |
| RevenueCat | Purchase and entitlement management | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Sentry | Crash reporting | sentry.io/privacy |
We sell your data to nobody, share it with nobody beyond the services above, and use it for no purpose other than those described here.
12 International transfers
Some of the services above process data outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision. Each provider’s own policy sets out its arrangements.
13 Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and publish the new version at this address. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
14 Not affiliated with the government
CitizenReady is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Home Office, UK Visas and Immigration, PSI Services or TSO. The Life in the UK Test fee is paid to the test provider, never to us.
